Precast Channels (Cast-in Channel Systems)
A precast channel is a C-profile section cast into concrete with anchor studs welded to its back. After the formwork is struck, a T-bolt is inserted into the slot and turned 90°, which lets brackets be fixed at any point along the channel — useful where the final position is not fixed at casting stage.

- Tunnel and metro: cable trays, contact rail supports, pipe and duct supports
- Utility tunnels and pipe racks: multi-level service supports
- Curtain wall and façade: bracket fixing where the setting-out may be adjusted on site
- Plant rooms and equipment bases where later relocation is expected

Design points that cause problems on site
- Capacity is not a single number. The safe load depends on the profile, the T-bolt size, edge distance, embedment depth and the concrete strength — it has to be checked for the actual layout, not estimated from one bolt.
- Keep the slot clean. The slot must be filled or taped before pouring; concrete that fills the profile is very difficult to remove afterwards.
- Match T-bolts to the channel. Slot width and tooth pitch vary between manufacturers, so bolts and channel should be supplied as a matched system.
- Allow for adjustment range. The advantage of a channel is the ability to reposition, but only within the length that was actually cast in.

- What is the difference between a precast channel and an embedded plate?
- A precast channel allows the connection point to be adjusted along the slot after casting, and needs no on-site welding. An embedded plate gives a high capacity at one fixed point. Projects often use both: channels for services and secondary framing, plates for the main structural connections.
- Can channels be supplied with the T-bolts?
- Yes. Supplying channel, T-bolts and nuts as a matched set avoids slot-width or tooth-pitch mismatch, which is a common cause of bolts that will not seat properly.
- How should the channel be protected against corrosion?
- Hot-dip galvanizing is the usual choice for tunnels and outdoor exposure; stainless steel is used where chlorides are aggressive. Confirm the coating grade with the anchor studs, since studs are welded before coating.
- What happens if the slot is filled with concrete?
- It has to be cleared before the T-bolt can be inserted. This is why slot filler or tape must be installed before pouring — cleaning a fully grouted channel afterwards is slow and often damages the profile.
